Home. Our Universe. BUDDHAS. BODHISATTVAS. Sutras.

Thus have I heard, once, Buddha[4] was in congregation with 1,250 Great Bhiksu[5] monks at the Jetavana[6] Park in Sravasti Kingdom. All of them were honorable Sravaka[7], the Great Arhan[8] and well-known sages, and were led by the Venerable Sariputra[9], Mahamaudgalyayana[10], Mahakasyapa[11], Mahakatyayana[12], Mahakausthila[13], Revata[14], Ksudrapanthaka[15], Nanda, Ananda[16], Rahula[17], Gavampati[18], Pinola-bharadvaja[19], Kalodayin[20], Maha-kapphina[21], Vakula[22], Aniruddha, and many great disciples and so on so forth. The assembly was further led by many Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, such as Wonderful Auspicious Bodhisattva[23], Invincible Bodhisattva[24], Ever-Progressiveness Bodhisattva, Restlessness Bodhisattva, and many great Bodhisattvas. Further, Sakra-devanam[25], Mahabrahma Devaraja[26], the Lord of Saha[27] World, the four Lokapalas[28], many kings of  Heavens, the rest of  the world, numberless Devas, men, and Asuras[29] have all come to the congregation for listening dharma preach.

At that time, the Buddha told the Venerable Sariputra: do you know that, from this world westward for ten thousand billion Buddha worlds, there is a Buddha’s world called the Utmost Bliss[30]. The Buddha in that world is called Amita, and is also known as Immeasurable Life and Infinite Light. He is also called Tathagata[31], Worthy of worship, Omniscience, etc., and has all ten titles that are complete and perfect[32]. He is now settling in and maintaining that world, helping all sentient beings by preaching profound dharma[33] and letting them receive supreme benefit and Bliss.
